Spiders

Here you will find leaflets about spiders structured the same way as the leaflets about butterflies; they inform about physiognomy and characteristics, occurrences and distribution, reproduction and growth, lifestyle and food and information on the toxicity. In addition to leaflets about single species the focus is on spiders from Crete.

Picture is showing a wolf spider (Tarantula) from the island Gavdos; it is also found at Crete and is probably native at all Mediterranean islands.

The Tarantula (Lycosa) ranks within the family of the wolf spiders (Lycosidae) to the species Lycosa. It has been described first in 1758 by the Swedish scientist Carl von Linné
